Overview

The Bombardier M5000 is a high-floor, articulated light rail vehicle (tram), part of the Flexity Swift family, built by Bombardier Transportation (later Alstom) between 2007 and 2022 in Bautzen, Germany and Vienna, Austria. Introduced into service in December 2009, the M5000 progressively replaced the older T-68/T-68A fleet, taking over all services on the Manchester Metrolink by May 2014.

Each unit is approximately 28.4 m long, 2.65 m wide, and 3.67 m high, with three bogies—two powered at each end and one under the articulation. The lightweight aluminium structure gives the vehicle an empty weight of around 39.7 t. The maximum operating speed is 50 mph (80 km/h).

Passenger capacity varies by batch: units 3001–3074 provide 52 standard seats + 8 perch seats, plus standing room for 146 passengers (total 206). Units 3075 onwards have 60 standard seats + 6 perch seats, with space for 4 wheelchairs instead of 2. Trams can operate singly or in pairs, carrying over 400 passengers when coupled.

By 2022, a total of 147 units had been delivered: the initial batch of 120, followed by 27 additional trams to boost capacity on the expanding Metrolink network. The M5000 is now the sole fleet type operating across all lines.

M5000 in Minecraft (MTR Mod)

This resource pack adds the Bombardier M5000 into Minecraft using the Minecraft Transit Railway mod. The original model was made by cw_315 for Transport Fever 2 and was ported to Minecraft by Vitor2005 in 2025. It is compatible with MTR4.
